My First Map & Adding Parallax

The stone path is bugging me a bit; it should lead the eye to where you want players to go, but it seems to be looping around all over the place and feels a bit random. Will there be other maps? If so, how will the player reach them? (I don't see an obvious "go to the next screen here" spot).

Ok, using taller sprites (32x48) definitely looks way better.

    Character Costume Design

I tend to put a lot of thought into the culture of the places I design, and that determines what sort of buildings they have (if any--there are some tent-dwelling nomads in my game), what objects decorate the background, what the NPCs are doing, and what sort of clothes people wear. Main...

Does Dubstep or Loopstep musics fit in with JRPG's Intro?

I could see it going really well with a cyberpunk/sci-fi game or one that's very action-focused. I make most of my music in MilkyTracker, which is free but also pretty basic.

    Opinions Wanted :)

Very nice! This gives a serious, somewhat lonely/sad feeling. I would expect a game with this as the main theme to have some major tragic elements and to be fairly serious in tone.

    Fellow non-scripters, tell me why...

I worked with Javascript before a long time ago (when I was in high school), but if I wanted to use it now I would have to completely relearn it. I'm familiar enough with the concepts of object-oriented programming that I would pick up on the basics again really quickly, but programming in any...

    Optional Minibosses?

I've been thinking of including some minibosses in my game that are avoidable, but the path to avoid them is a puzzle--basically, giving the player a choice between solving the puzzle or fighting the miniboss. I'm not sure if it's a good idea, though, and if I do implement it, whether I should...

Why aren't there more map battle systems?

I haven't seen many really good map-based battle systems personally, but I thought the kind of hybrid system in Chrono Trigger worked really well (basically enemies are visible on the map, then attack when you approach and start a turn-based battle right there on the map). While it would be a...
