Why even have this thread? I have seen so many profile post that look like they were not meant to be seen public. When someone put a message on someone else's profile page, it is not private. It is public for anybody visiting the community. The profile posting also allows anyone else to respond, even if that was not the intention.
If you have a personal message for another member it is better to "Start a Conversation." These are private. The exception to this is if you check the "Allow anyone in the conversation to invite others." option.
Both Profile Posts and Start a Conversation options can be accessed by left clicking the desired member's avatar. The options Profile Page and Start a Conversation are available there.
Another thing related to this topic is posting links in Profile Posts. This method is good for sharing a link, but most members would have to see it before the fifth next profile post occurs. Why not find a thread or create a thread that addresses that linked reference. Chances of the link getting more exposure increases.
