PC or Mac?

Just curious here - which of you use PC, and which use Mac? :)

I'm a Mac user myself, but I grew up on PC. I don't really have a preference anymore, to be honest. PCs are great for when I want to play games, and Macs are great for working in my art programs.

(Each have their benefits, so let's not argue about which is better. ;D)

I grew up on Commodore 64 and then the TRS80. This is before the days of Microsoft's PC or the first Macs being available. I remember when I had my first experience with Macintosh. I was in the oilfield and the computers used OS2, which was betting an handling our processing needs than DOS (Windows). I remember also seeing my first GUI or an actually icon being used to click on to start a program. It was on an Apple. I love Apple for its graphical abilities, but unfortunately have owned PCs due to their affordability, and in the early days, most games were made in Windows format, and were not able to be played on PC.

I definitely agree about the affordability of PCs - I didn't get a Macbook until a tax-free weekend here before I started college, and I paid exactly 999.99. My wallet felt the burn, but it was definitely worth it. xD My art programs (especially the Adobe ones) just feel so much more intuitive on Mac.

As you know already, I use a Windows PC. However, people say Mac are better for works, especially arts. Though I can do these stuffs on Windows as well, but I've never understood why. I wish I could know the reasons about it in order to better understand.

The only thing I don't like with Mac is their pricing, which brings less compatibilities in the long run until it gets a sufficient amount of demography. Don't worry, I have no hate, nor ill towards Mac. That's just my personnal opinion anyway. So cheers! ^^

Ever since I finished school I have been using my trusty li'l Macbook here and it has never failed me. I got it because I'm doing a lot of complex HQ audio editing (and creating for that matter) and I wanted a multimedia machine that would last me a long time. So far, it got me over three years and it's still purring like a kitten (if that figure of speech can even be applied to computers). XD
However, about one year ago I installed Windows 8 on an extra partition so I can use the benefits of both systems. And Win on a Mac runs surprisingly well, I gotta say. Had a few driver issues first but I now I think I got the best setup I could have at this given moment. :)

@MinisterJay Wow a C64 user! Had one of those as a little kid. Nothing like waiting 5+ minutes for a game to load off a 5 1/4 disk and swapping them mid game! Try that for a "retro experience" folks! Fastload cart was a Godsend though, LOL!

Ahem, I use PC always, better compatibility for what I need (mostly games). Photoshop and Manga Studio do my fine for all my graphical needs as well. I also dislike APPel more than I do M$. Course M$ is treading on nasty territory with me since Win10.

@RiseEvil: As technology is getting better on both sides, the lines are kind of blurring on which type is better to go with for graphics. Originally, Macs were better for graphics because of their displays, but in some cases that isn't necessarily true anymore. Many people working in graphics still go with Mac, because they're simply what almost any professional graphics company has used before.

A lot of the time nowadays you can go with either Mac or PC with little hassle - it really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for processing power, which is great for 3D modeling and rendering, then PC should be your first choice. If you're looking for a better selection of fonts, and wider variety of free programs, then Mac is probably the way to go. Another benefit to Macs (especially in my case), is that many Adobe programs come with add-ons that simply aren't available for PC (yet?).

I do something much similar to @Kaimen, as I run Parallels with a copy of Windows 7 so I can switch between both Windows and OSX very quickly. I will say that I do all of my 3D modeling and rendering on Macs just fine, but it does take significantly less time to render on a PC.

I initially had the cassette player before getting the 5 1/4. I remember my first 300 baud external modem.

Ah I did have a cassette too, rarely used it though. Completely forgot about it!

I don't think I could ever switch to a MAC, unless I got one for free, then maybe...

I use PC right now(WIn 10), but I have used all OS's and I must say, I've stuck with Linux for over a year then got bored and switched back to Windows when windows 10 came out. I owned a Mac Mini a few years back and I really enjoyed it, it was fast, stable and convenient but not quite my cup of tea. I have a big hate for Microsoft and windows but for some reason I always go back to it , I think its the compatability thing, who knows lol.

Someone gave me a free iPad for my bday last year, I pretty much use it just to play Summoners War. I almost fell over after seeing Apple's 72 page agreement. Insane!

I'm forced to use an iPod at work, it's a nightmare. Very unreliable piece of hardware! Everyone hates them lol.

Siri just screams privacy breach. Course M$ is no better now with the sneaky Cortana.

So yea, after dealing with other Apple devices I'm really skeptical..

I see, so it's more on about available add-ons and stuffs depending the demand and demography, as well as nostalgic value. Now I understand better. Thanks for your explaination, @Amysaurus ^^

PC for life! we used Macs at school though (the ones that are a monitor/keyboard combined)--they are kinda cool and glamorous but I just prefer PC because it's what I'm comfortable with I suppose...

I didn't like how that type of Mac wasn't as customizable as a PC (I actually don't know if that's true but that's just what I assume from looking at it) ... I don't know anything about Macs. xD

I like my iPad for watching movies in bed though

Macs can be less customizable to a degree, but not as much as people say. iPads seem alright, but I'm awful at using them, lol. I think it's because I'm used to working with my smaller iPhone.
