Hello everyone, I just received an email from my hosting stating: The account is currently 80.24% of its capacity. In order to continue to allow new content to the site we're going to need to upgrade the capacity here very soon, and in order to do so we're going to need some donations.

I hate to ask for donations, however we need to upgrade the site in order to allow more resources/content. There is a plan to give us unlimited disk space, if we can raise enough money we will be able to upgrade to this, and will not need to worry about this for a year as I'll be trying to purchase the yearly plan.

Please visit: http://www.rpgmakermv.co/donate/ to help us reach our goal! Any and all donations will help us receive our goal!

You do not have to go to the donate page, you can also purchase Sponsor for $5 a month, or Partner for $15 a year which will help us out a lot! You can find that here: http://www.rpgmakermv.co/account/upgrades

This is a high quality, FUN forum to be part of. We get free assistance from staff and non-staffers. I have been a member of many forums before, both as ember and moderator, over the last decade, and this is one of the best, I have ever experienced. So, please be PART of the RMMV Forum's expansion team and donate, at the capacity that you able to.

Mind sharing the breakdown apart from the "80%" thing? I don't know about the rest of the people here, but I like to know EXACTLY what my cash would be going to, and to who and what for.

I'm also curious why the goal is so high, and how much the actual costs are looking to be, and if the rest of the staff is rewarded for their work in some way at all (eivl is especially quite deserving in my opinion.).

Who does the money go to? Just the server? If the goal is $200 a month right now, that's a decent amount of cash. Is the server $2400 a year then? Or are the remaining funds split between the staff?

If it's all just 100% going towards hosting, then please educate me on how it adds up to $2400, for I just proved myself quite ignorant.

@Macro right now we have the lowest teird in our hosting, as I was honestly not expecting this to take off this fast. Now that we have taken off our server data has reached over 80% of it's capacity, in less than 2 months. Meaning, we don't have much time before it hits 100% and we won't be able to add any new content. This means, that this month I'm trying to raise the needed amount to upgrade the site for at least another year right now, so we don't have to worry about this until next November/December. So, as of this month all the donations are going directly to the servers.

As for the donations on every other given month, I've explained all this here: http://www.rpgmakermv.co/threads/about-sponsor-partner-level-10-members.974/
A lot of you all have been asking where the money goes for the Sponsor/Partner payment. The answer is simple, all money we make goes back into the website. We put all money back into it in several ways, we put up advertisements, have people help with our SEO, buy addon/plugins for the forums, keep the hosting and domain name up and running, etc.
All the money we get I put back into the website, and since it is new, all the money needs to go back into getting it up, and having a base to stand on. Eventually, I'd like to reward staff members with something, but as of now it's not a priority, and something many sites do not do with cash, but with rewards. I was thinking about getting exclusive MV content once it the community and official RM content is released as 'gifts' etc. I wanted to do this for christmas as well, but sadly, there isn't any out. As well as there are a lot of staff members, so getting gifts, and splitting any leftover funds would mean they wouldn't get much of anything at the end of the day. It's something I'll have to look into once we have a foundation, and can actually worry about this type of stuff, as of now all staff members have volunteered to be apart of helping this community at their own free will knowing there isn't anything to give but my utmost gratitude.

I'm not sure where you're getting the $2400 from. This month is $200, every other month has been $100 because that is the default it is set too. We've never had an actual goal as of now, and all money that has been donated prior goes to countless things such as SEO, addons/plugins, customizations, and advertisements for the website to help it both be the best place it can be, and to help gather more members. This month, the $200, is to pay for a year of hosting, which I am upgrading to the max tier of hosting which the unlimited data plan. Right now, we only have 3G's, and we're coming close to that. The second highest is 10G, and it's only a few dollars short of the unlimited plan, so we're simply upgrading to that. After we reach our goal, it's going back down to the default of $100 a month, and we're going back to whatever people donate, goes back into countless things on the forums.

@Xyphien I know from experience that servers supporting forums are quite costly. I was promoted to administrator of a gaming forum a few months ago. Unfortunately it did not grow fast enough. There were only two to three members financially supporting the forum, and quickly it was harder to raise the $100/month. Like here, all staff: administrators and moderators, are volunteers. Servers for forums are expensive due to high visitors and growing content. Fledgling sites may quickly grow beyond the initial server plans. I understand where you are coming from, and support your donations strategies.

I got $200 from 200 x 12 = 2400. This is the first time I looked at the donation page as well (also joined in very late October), so from my (sleep deprived) point of view, it looked like a monthly collection of $200 was needed.

Thanks for explaining though, makes more sense to me now. ^_^ Also, I never did see the other post, very good to know! I apologize for my ignorance.

@Micro no need to apologize, they were all good questions that I do not mind explaining :) It's good to question where the donations and money are going on sites, that way you know they're not just taking the money and running with it :)

I donate to websites/forums/games that I feel have a good community and I enjoy being a part of.

Considering the fact that I'm very new to the forum, I've already seen how great this community is, and I'm very much enjoying being a part of it. So you get my donation. :) Hopefully it'll help. :3
