[Mapping] non-paralax Backgrounds??

Is it possible?

I've been trying to figure out how to do this all day, with no luck.
Ideally, I'd love to set a "static background" of .. oh, lets just say an art-drawn scanned World Map, and then use 'invisible' events to define the boundries/waters/mountains/etc, and use the usual Tiles of towns/crystals/etc as you'd expect in basic projects to tranfer player those other Maps.
No luck, and setting a big image file as the background works until you move the actor, which makes it shift all strangely due to being "parallax".
Thoughts? Plugins? Help! :P

Yes it's possible. You will need a plugin named Bind Picture To Map. I'm not sure how that one works but it should be fairly basic stuff a simple notetag or something like that. If you need further help let me know.

What about using Regions?

Yanfly has some region plugins that sound like what you're after. Off the top of my head, I think one of them is Region Events and the other one is Region Restrictions. And I saw one somewhere (by Orange) relating to region collisions.

The Regions would work for limiting the movement of actors around on the map, yes.
My main issue was trying to figure out how to use a more realistic "photo-map" image as the maps, rather than tiles, because I wanted that stylized feel to the game I'm working on. I'll try out that "Bind Picture to Map" plugin tomorrow evening, thanks LTN.

(oh, and thanks for moving thread, I wasn't sure where to put it, here or where it was in "discussion".)

That's actually similar to what I'm working on for my game Adventures of Tryggr, so in a way this has helped me out too, given me a few ideas as well. :) I was looking into a kind of multi-layer map/parallax semi-animated design with regional areas; the "Bind Picture to Map" might be useful as well.

There is an overlay plugin available now, simillar to bind picture to map but with more options available. "Kaus Ultimate Overlay MV"
Thanks all! the Overlay plugin and Region Restrictions were PERFECT for what I was trying to accomplish. (mainly, use a pencil-sketch map as the actual "map" to walk around on, in some areas, rather than tiles. makes for very lovely organic-edges and such, which was the style I wanted for the OtherWorldDreamLand part of a game I'm messing around making.
Much appreciated!
