Hello all, I'm an old user from back in RPG Maker's past. I started with RM2K. I'm more of a lurker than anything else but if know something I sometimes will share my knowledge. I all but completely skipped the vx age of the software for the slimming down of features. The switch to a html5 and JavaScript base is something nice and makes learning to script for it a little easier and more fruitful. Though I'm not convinced on the new mapping tools. Auto layering and the like I've never been fond of, I'd be much more interested in a more 'PhotoShop' style layering system.

I look forward to the portability of the final product this has the possibility of releasing. Wish you all the best of luck on each of your projects.

Hello and welcome to the forum @Isaac The Red. Y-you you like mlp (cheeky)? ( ok fandom is so big what do ppl expect nvm). Nice to have you here and hope you'll share your knowledge with us. See you around and have fun(heart)

I know what you're talking about with the layering idea but it's still better than in vx and ace but since you skipped it doesn't really matter anyway. The bigger grids are pretty useful though ~

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm pretty much only dabbling with this version for now. the shoddy part is I majored in webdesign back in collage, however, that was back when HTML 4 was just becoming the 'new standard' and Shockwave/Flash was all the rage. We didn't actually learn much on JS.... mostely Pearl a little PHP and .net BS. yay for dated knowledge.

A little bit on me, My favorite RPG Maker Project out in the wild was from back in RM2k/3 era, called Survivor NYSE. amazingly it still has a webpage http://spersoft.8m.net/custom.html if anyone cares. Sadly it was never completed, as is the case with many RPGM games. [my own projects included lol] but for an incomplete game, this had a LOT of potential.

In the RMXP era KNight-Blade: Howling of Kerberos was a favorite.

So far my favorite feature for MV would be the return of the side view battle system.

[and yes, Big Macintosh is my avatar, in the most deadpan expression I have found. From the comics. :D]

I've spent the Better half of the day going through Yanfly's Youtube Channel and website, seeing what he has to offer and I'm absolutely loving it all. I'm wracking my brains trying to remember WHERE I stored all my OLD RM2k/3/XP Resources that I've either made or collected. To see what I can push forward into this new generation. [A sad loss from the RTP this time around is the Elementals. XP and earlier had lovely elemental girls as Battlers and walk sprites.]

Honestly I'm stoked about how far the community has really come. When I first started, it was everyone using a hacked version of RM2k or 2k3 that someone translated and released. And that continued on into XP as well, with Postality Knights' release of RMXP... I'm happy to see RPG Maker has OFFICIALLY made it from overseas to have a proper translation.

I'm having a hard time Deciding what I want to actually do first...

Hello and welcome to RMMV! ^_^ Hope you have fun and find what you are looking for here.

I'm not too crazy about the newer mapping system either. I generally prefer parallaxing in Photoshop as well. I was really into XP for some time, but the lack of support had me move on to ACE, then again to MV.. It's hard to finish anything because new makers keep being released and I like being as current gen as possible. >_<

Oh I understand that! While I thought I might finish my game in VX Ace, upgrading just seems to be the better option in my book.

From what I noticed the only rapid release was for RMVX to RMVXA. RM2k to 2k3 was about 3 years naturally, and XP didn't come out for another few years after that. XP was most current for a considerable amount of time. before VX and ACE took the stage. Being Honest 2k3 was my favorite having watched base features be stripped away with the release of XP and VX, despite gaining the ruby scripting system in the process. But really thats just me griping about BS that was all eventually worked over via all the wonderful script jockeys out there.

I work a pretty hectic and demanding schedule through the week, but if anyone needs help with stuff I can lend a hand on my down time. Dedicating some serious time to getting up to full speed with MV and the likes.
