Hello there, mods, fellow staff, and members. Allow me to be short and to the point.
We need to have some kind of standards for wiki article. Can't there be some sort of submission process, that APPROVED articles get posted to the wiki? Because--let's face it--some articles are less than subpar in quality.

Some articles are very well written or have very good content (or both!), and some articles look like.... well.... the opposite.

Please, let's implement some sort of article submission/moderation system so we can have some form of order.

Thanks!

Agreed, maybe we should have something like this for the resource section as well. User-submitted stuff intended to be used as a tool for developers should definitely have some quality control.

The wiki support in general is atrocious currently. In fact there are some bugs that need to be addressed before we begin to worry about the approval process, which is already administered, just not very well due to both our admins being busy, and also stubborn about letting mods approve of things also??

But here's a few of the big kickers which is why I stopped wiki-posting.

-Editing once and saving will also initiate an awaiting approval process, but the process is only a notification, the admins don't see it, they don't know about it. I still have had the edit to this approved of and I made it weeks ago.

I'm letting it go by for the time since the wiki isn't a main part of the site, but still everytime I see this I go sort of, well!

Bananas!

Edits by the OP I don't think should need approval, if you're page has been approved by an admin then you're good to go! I also think if another member wants to edit your page then the permission to authorize said edit should be handed to the OP as well.

As someone with wiki mod powers, I uh, completely agree it needs some work.
Example: I can move, delete, and edit pages, but I cannot see (and therefore can't approve) edits to pages.

There are so many pages I want to make, but I have no clue how or what to write in them. There are simply no guidelines at the moment. T_T

It's also something I've brought up with resources. Giving users free reign to share everything they'd like can be a great thing, but it's a case of too much of a good thing sometimes. Having at least some basic rules for the Wiki would be great, and some sort of approval system for pages being submitted would be a good idea, I think.

To me, the wiki has always been kind of a strange area for the site. The first time I went to the wiki I was expecting a section for the maker itself, but now I'm honestly not sure if it's a wiki for the site specifically, and the resources hosted here (which is all that is on it currently), or if it is supposed to contain pages pertaining to MV as well. I feel that in it's current state it's stuck at that point where there aren't enough pages for members to care about it and, because of that, members don't care enough about it to make pages.

Yeah, that's just the thing. There's really not much mention of the wiki besides "What do we do with it?" posts, so there's not much going for it in the way of getting attention.

If we can come up with some good uses/ideas for the different sections of the wiki, I'd be more than happy to reorganize it and come up with some descriptions/guidelines for the different sections. Here are a couple of RM wikis, if anyone feels like perusing those for some ideas. :)

It would be great to have lots of information on RPG Maker MV in general. I just wonder who could write those articles without basically copying what everyone else has said? I would think that is the main problem.... However, after doing a search, I can't find an RPG Maker Wik that seems to have lots of information about the mechanics of game making. Perhaps it is a need that we, as a community, can fulfill. If this is the case, I would definitely agree that things need to be vetted, and there needs to be a clear distinction between what is creative projects versus information about various tools and more (like descriptions of Yanfly's plugins, history of RPG maker, etc.).

The restrictions currently are driving anyone away.

Because our admins are pretty often MIA due to having busy lives, it's not at all uncommon to wait days for a page to be approved of.

Some say the wiki is pointless. But I like it!

Except for the real issue with it.
THE SINGLE PARADOXICAL EDIT.

You get one chance, to update it, but even that edit?
It's gone now.

Admins, can't see it.
Staff, can't see it.
They can see the page, but approve of it's edit?
No.
But I know the secret.
It wasn't always this way.
The added security?
I T * B R O K E * E V E R Y T H I N G .

Save me some grumpy bitching, and yourselves more trouble, and take off the approval system all together. It's caused you more trouble than it's worth, hasn't it?

I used it for articles on my own games and the universe they span.

Tutorials section is where you go for MV info!

The wiki addon we purchased for the site is not the best at all, but it's sadly the best Xenforo offers. There are loads of issues, and we're unable to fix any of them. However, I'll look into it as best as I can. I cannot make any promises though as stated, the addon itself is pretty awful.

This being said, the mod approve prosess is something I have NO control over, I've looked into this several times, and I'll take another look through it. It's not that I'm lazy, always busy, or being stubborn (All of which you've called me at least once BM) it simply does not show up for us at all.

There wasn't any security, updates, or anything. I haven't touched the wiki at all as I haven't figured out any way to change it as of yet. Therefore, everything that we have access (Even myself, the Owner) is what we currently have access too.

To me, the wiki has always been kind of a strange area for the site. I added the wiki because a lot of members have requested it, and I was expecting a self sustaining wiki, but what the addon turned out to be was a giant overly moderated tool to post, posts. As stated prior, I'm working on trying to fix it, but I have not found a way to do it as of yet. I'm going to go ahead and message the addon creators and see if they can help me with everything.

As for what the section is, I'd like it to be for everything if possible. Have some helpful materials, information on your own resources/games, etc.

You'd do well to notice I've recognized pinning you as lazy was a mistake, as I didn't even insinuate that here, let alone say it.

That's weird!
There was a time I could add articles INSTANTLY, no approvals, no withdrawals, editing was freeform??

Something is up. It's clearly not on you, but SOMEONE is fucking with SOMEONE ELSE.

It's a conspiracy!

And maybe a beautiful hate-date. :3

Aye, it's so weird. You've only had to approve of 3 of my entries, those that got me my badges, no approval, they were there instantly, and I can to this day, edit them without lock out.

So weird. :0
[doublepost=1452095482,1452095214][/doublepost]UPDATE.

I just contacted them explaining everything, and I hope to hear a response from them here soon.

That can actually help out a lot. I'll look into that now. I'll update this when I find out.
[doublepost=1452095864,1452095544][/doublepost]Edit: I think I fixed a lot of the moderation queues for everyone. This should fix a majority of the issues at hand.

With the new permissions I think I set, you should now be able to edit the Wiki content with the not so good content, and edit them to your liking. As well as anyone else who's a member.

@Xyphien I might try to make a wiki article in the future. So basically, if I want to post a character bio for one of my games, I can put that sort of thing on there?

I don't see why not :) I'll make an announcement in the suggestions to see what direction everyone wants the wiki to go.

Well, I'm late to the conversation, and it seems everything is working out. Me as a moderator have been very naughty when it comes to the Wiki page, by that I mean I literally never check it, (*Writes down on daily forum to-do list to check wiki*) So that will change I'll be checking it more often lol, especially now that it will be working better for users now.

I feel like, whichever direction we go in, step 1. will be replacing the default descriptions on each section. Seeing "This page description was added automatically because the current page has no text content. Edit this page to add more relevant text." doesn't quite inspire confidence. xD

Yea this would be more motivating to first time users, actually all users lol. This is a good first step @Amysaurus.
